40th edition of the International Meetings of the Photgraphy of Arles - July 7th > September 13th 2009

Through more than 50 exhibitions settled in diverse exceptional patrimonial places of the city of Arles ; The Meetings of Arles (Rencontres d’Arles), every summer, intend to contribute to pass on the world photographic heritage and also are the melting pot of the contemporary creation by the discovery of young talented photographers.
Thanks to a high standard but also public oriented programming (reportages, portraits, advertising, installations or the big collections, the Meetings of Arles investigate the current stakes of the photography and show the power of this medium and the importance of the photographer, witness of the world which surrounds him.
Being aware of the failovers of the photographed image, the renewal of the initiatives, the approach on the photographed subject and the plastic forms. Being ready for the usage of the new techniques to be able to propose to the public another conception of the photographic exhibition and a true relationship with the image.

Caroline Serre has just been elected XXth queen of Arles.

The suspence has finally ended when at 1.30 p.m. the mayor of Arles Hervé Schiavetti, from the balcony of the City hall, said the sententence awaited by all the inhabitants of Arles, “Pople d’Arle, Veici ta reino” introducing Caroline Serre, the XXth Queen of Arles. Born the August 22nd 1988, Caroline is student in frist year of law.
After more than 4 hours of contests, the jury, presided by Hubert Yonnet, Returned its verdict. As H. Yonnet mentioned in the main room of the City hall, “What a difficult choice it has been regarding the qualifications of these 7 yound ladies pretenders of this supreme title !!!”
During the three years of her reign, Caroline Serre will be accompagned by Elodie Bretagne, Pauline Faget, Anaïs Marquis, Magali Nouveau, Laure Novelli et Marion Pitras.

Election of the 20th Queen of Arles - May 1st, 2008

The seven pretenders elected by the juri of the election of the XXth queen of Arles stemming from preselections of this weekend are: Elodie Bretagne (19), Pauline Faget (21), Anaïs Marquis (19), Magali Nouveau (21), Laure Novelli (20), Marion Pitras (23) et Caroline Serre (19).

It is to celebrate hundred years of Fédéric Mistral’s birth, in 1930, that the first queen of Arles is elected. Nathalie Chay, elected in 2005, is the 19th Queen of Arles. On nineteen young registered candidates, the preselections of May 19th and 20th, 2008 will appoint 7 finalists. On May 1st, 2008 the XXth Queen d’ Arles and the Bridesmaids will be elected for a duration of three years in the course of which they will be the representative of Arles and Provence through France and the world. 8th European Festival of the Photo of Nude - 03 on May 12th, 2008

Eight years at the beginning of May that the European Festival of the Photo of Nude invites the public, inhabitants of Arles and worldwide, to discover the photographic works of contemporary artists on the central subject of the body.
Last year was a tribute to Jeanloup Sieff. This year the guest of honor is Uwe Ommer with the photos of its book ‘ Do it Yourself ‘.

Mayor of Arles, Hervé Schiavetti.

Hervé Schiavetti is born on July 6th 1956 in Marseille. He was elected mayor of Arles in the French municipal election of 2001. Member of the French communist Party, Hervé Schiavetti was the first deputy of socialist Party mayor Michel Vauzelle . He won the the municipal elections of March 2001, getting 52.31% while three lists where still represented. He is also a councillor of the Bouches-du-Rhône (canton of Arles-West) since March 1998? His list has been re-elected on the first round of the March 2008 minucipal elections with 57% of voters.
